Attachment to suffering

Detach & redefine yourself

One of the biggest trip-ups I have found in detachment work is my attachment to my own feelings, my own narrative, and my attachment to my own suffering.

Ponder on this for a moment: What would you be like if you did not hold on to any of the hurt that has happened to you? What would you be like if you let all of that go and stepped into a new version of yourself that is without that deep-seated sense of pain?

If you are like me, you likely had a visceral reaction to those questions. This is likely due to our attachment to our own suffering. Every person on earth will have suffering. We all will go through trials and tribulations in this life that can be life-altering.

Leaning into this rather than running from it has been the only way I have been able to alleviate any of the heaviness of it all.

Leaning in: what does that even mean??

It means to not run away from how you are feeling at that moment. Investigating how you react is a great first step in the direction of change. I like to use anger as an example because this is something that I am constantly working on.

In the moment of anger; leaning into this would be to take a moment and ask yourself where the roots of this anger are.

This will take time and practice but there is no better time than now to start.

Leaning in is how I have been taking the power out of those intense and heavy feelings.

Any of the self-help modalities will require you to be doing some kind of work. Directing your energy to a worthy cause, like yourself and your wellness, will help give you confidence slowly but surely on this journey.

Take it one moment at a time.
